NCAA roundup: Southern Illinois tops New Orleans

Dantiel Daniels scored 20 points and host Southern Illinois defeated New Orleans 74-61 Monday night. ?

Anthony Beane Jr. had 17 points, Jalen Pendleton scored 14 and Jeff Early had 12 points for the Salukis (6-2). ?

Both teams shot 59 percent from the field in the second half, but Southern Illinois never trailed after the break and its 13-point margin at the end matched its biggest lead of the game.

Dave Sobolewski scored 18 points, including a 3-pointer with 1:45 left to give Northwestern the lead for good, and the Wildcats closed the game on a 12-0 run to defeat Texas State 74-68. ?

The visiting Bobcats led 68-62 with less than 4 minutes left, but five straight free throws, two each by Sobolewski and Reggie Hearn and one by Jared Swopshire, cut it to 68-67. Sobolewski?s jump shot put Northwestern (8-3) up 70-68. ?

TOP 25

Anthony Marshall scored 13 points and Bryce DeJean-Jones added 12 for No. 21 UNLV in a 62-60 victory over host UTEP. ?

Jaques Streeter scored with 27 seconds left to cut UNLV?s lead to two points. DeJean-Jones had an opportunity to make it a two-possession game but missed two free throws with 15 seconds left. ?

(12) MISSOURI 102, SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 51: Jabari Brown, playing in his first game since Nov. 17, 2011 when he was a freshman at Oregon, scored 12 points for the host Tigers (9-1). Brown, 6-foot-5 guard, became eligible at the end of the first semester.

(22) Notre Dame 74, IPFW 62: Pat Connaughton scored 18 points to lead the hosts (10-1).

Connaughton also had six rebounds and five assists.
